Joey Barlow lives in a neighborhood where the lawns look nice, everyone waves, and society is quietly circling down the cul-de-sac drain.
A suburban synth punk armed with cheap keyboards, a questionable past, and a healthy disregard for conventional standards, Joey delivers old-school synth-driven soundtracks for awkward conversations, existential errands, and whatever comes after the decline of Western civilization. And he loves run-on sentences.
Armed with a profound indifference to other people’s opinions, Joey finds humor in humanity’s worst instincts and a strange comfort in the absurdity of it all. He’s not angry enough to be a revolutionary and not optimistic enough to be a motivational speaker. He’s just documenting the end times with a shrug and some stripped-down beats.
If you enjoy polished and overproduced pop music… shame on you! Just kidding? Joey writes and records songs in one sitting, first take, keeping the recordings raw and gritty, lo-fi and retro, for better or for worse. It’s like every track could be the last song you ever hear. And maybe that’s a good thing.
The future is canceled. The world is falling apart. But the dog still needs to be walked. Joey Barlow provides the soundtrack.
