Welcome to Part 3 of my 10-part blog series What Is Salvation? You have questions about salvation; the Bible has the answers.
What am I being saved from? (Or: “I seem to be doing fine, so what exactly is the problem?”)
When people hear “saved,” they often imagine a lifeguard diving into the ocean or someone shouting “Hallelujah!” at a revival tent. But saved from what, exactly?
Is this just churchy lingo for “getting your life together?”
The short answer is: Nope.
The long and scarier answer: You are being saved from the most serious, eternal danger imaginable. But the good news is: God made a way out!
Let’s break it down.
💀 You’re Being Saved from Death
We started to talk about this in the last post, but it’s worth repeating (and repeating again):
“For the wages of sin is death…” – Romans 6:23a (KJV)
Death is the payment sin earns.
We all die physically; that’s no mystery. But the Bible talks about something worse than physical death: spiritual death. That means eternal separation from God, in a place of judgment the Bible calls Hell.
🔥 Yes, Hell Is Real (and Not Just for Murderers)
This isn’t the part people like to hear, but it’s the truth. And we’re here for truth, not sugar-coated fluff.
Jesus said:
“And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” – Matthew 10:28 (KJV)
Hell is not just a metaphor or a scare tactic. It’s a real place prepared for the devil and his angels (as it says in Matthew 25:41). And sadly, people who reject God’s salvation will end up there too.
God isn’t eager to send anyone there, but He will not force Himself on anyone. Salvation is offered to everyone. It is a gift, and you have to receive it.
⚖️ You’re Also Being Saved from Judgment
Picture this: you’re standing before a perfect Judge, and every thought, word, and action of your life is brought into account. There’s no hiding. No excuses. No smooth-talking your way out of it.
“And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.” – Hebrews 9:27 (KJV)
That’s what we’re facing without Jesus. Judgment. And trust me, you don’t want to go into that courtroom without the Savior standing in your place.
🙌 You’re Being Saved from Wrath
This one’s not talked about much, but it should be. The Bible says God is loving, but he’s also just. He hates sin. He must punish it. That’s part of His holiness.
But here’s the amazing part:
“Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.” – Romans 5:9 (KJV)
Through Jesus, we are saved from the wrath of God. Not because we don’t deserve it but because Jesus took it for us.
On the cross, He absorbed the punishment, the judgment, the full wrath of a holy God, so you wouldn’t have to.
🙏 You’re Being Saved from a Life Without God
Let’s not overlook this: Without salvation, you’re not just heading for a Christless eternity, you’re living a Christless life right now.
A life without peace, without spiritual purpose, without real hope.
But Jesus said:
“I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” – John 10:10b (KJV)
Salvation doesn’t just rescue you from Hell. It brings you into a relationship with God that starts now and lasts forever.
🗣️ Let’s Recap
You’re being saved from death, judgment, Hell, God’s wrath, and a life without Him. And that’s not fear-mongering; that’s His fatherly love giving you a warning.
🚨 Good News Alert
The only reason God warns us about Hell is because He made a way for us to avoid it. That way is Jesus.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” – John 3:16 (KJV)
✨ Next Time
We’ll ask, “Isn’t Being a Good Person Enough?”
Spoiler alert: Being nice doesn’t cancel out sin, but we’ll explain why and what does.
